A Trip Home- Barbados: Crop Over 2016

Posted on: Monday, August 15, 2016

Most of you don’t know this but I had a pretty rough couple of weeks prior to coming back home. The hectic energy of Miami Swim Week coupled with being robbed at gunpoint (I’ll save this for a story time video) , made me realize I really needed a break. I was physically, but more so mentally drained and just to be surrounded by loved ones and something as simple as taking a meaningful breath on the beach where I grew up was so healing. It centered me and took me away from the metropolitan mind frame Miami usually has my day-to-day life in.

Upon arriving I was especially excited due to the fact that neither my brother or mother knew I was coming so surprising them in the store put a great start to the beginning of my trip. For the first couple days leading up to Kadooment, I was in my pop up shop @cropovercorner selling the tights so during the days it wasn’t much relaxation… but it was SO NICE TO MEET SO MANY OF YOU!!! Thank you for coming in and saying hi, next time I’ll be sure to write down names and take pictures! A couple of you were asking why I didn’t jump and to be honest I didn’t even know if I was coming home until two weeks prior so there was no time to figure out the costume situation.

Anyways, after the Kadooment rush was over it was fete (parties) after fete, after fete after fete lol. I didn’t get much sleep but the Crop Over season just has a vibe to it that makes you forget about resting. Needless to say my body paid for it when I got back to Miami.

Aside from all the partying I spent quite a bit of time alone just going to the beach or taking walks. Barbados has a charm to it that you don’t really need to do much in order to enjoy yourself. Days spent enjoying my surroundings or just running into a Bajan and having a random conversation were the most satisfying and calming.

Check out some pics below that I took and some from the shoots I did with a couple Bajan photographers @kweenkamilah, @shaneleacock, @karenchristineephoto

I’m not sure when I’m going back home but. A couple people DM me asking for places to go/ things to do while in Bim so if you plan on going just let me know I’ll be so happy to give you my two cents 🙂

Hope you enjoyed the video and this read

Love Always
